Arizona outdoor racquetball courts are filling up everywhere with this great weather and indoor court closures. Places like parks and hiking trails are becoming overcrowded and we have had a large increase in where are places to play outdoor.
The Arizona Outdoor Racquetball site has a list of 3 wall outdoor courts and you can check out their Facebook page and you can find post for 4 wall outdoor courts that are locked and open. This being said we would like everyone to be self responsible for the welfare of others and be safe so we all can come together as soon as possible.
When things are back to normal, we wish these newly acquired outdoor players will be able to see past the dirty courts, sun and wind of outdoor playing and look how outdoor players love the more social side of the game. Compare it to tailgating or a family picnic, it really is an outdoor party with racquetball and friends to include music, BBQ, drinks, and even a custom port-a-potty.
At this time, we have suspended all
programs and activities through 4/23/20 until we get further
Once we are given the opportunity to resume, we can reschedule activities.
The Tucson handball community and the World Players of Handball have finalized plans with the City of Tucson’s Parks and Recreation Department on a project to convert five existing 4-Wall outdoor courts to 3-Wall. The existing courts are part of an underutilized 10-court facility in the geographic center of a community of approximately one million citizens. The goal of the planned improvements will be to not only increase access and utilization of the complex for the Tucson community, including youth handball development programs, but also provide additional tournament capacity for both small and big ball handball events.
The sketch illustrates the intended scope of the renovations. The intention is primarily to convert the five existing south facing courts from 4-Wall (enclosed) to 3-Wall (open in rear) by removing the back panels and adding additional concrete flooring/slab beyond the current back walls. Fencing and lighting improvements will be included to create a protected and safe area of play. Just outside the playable area, there will be a shade structure and room for bleachers within a beautiful grassy area, which will also provide space for picnics and barbecues, etc.
This is a terrific location in the northeast corner of Tucson’s principal mid-town park and golf/tennis/recreation center complex. The location is ideal for both casual and tournament play, given the proximity of supporting commercial, retail, and lodging – as well as the availability of access via the public transportation system. The project renovations are set to be completed during the fall of 2019.
In order to provide sufficient funds for the improvements, we are requesting that our members/friends of the handball and racquetball community consider contributing toward the associated costs. We will need to raise at least $100,000 to provide the quality project the handball community deserves. All donations will be tax deductible and greatly appreciated. “Lifetime Memberships” will be awarded to those donors contributing $500 or more and will be recognized on the Randolph 3-Wall Wall of Fame.
